Story: Remembering Her
Word Count: 171
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Simon
Warnings: Memory loss, character death, romantic relationship that ended badly
The first time he woke up and remembered Ruth, he went back and almost saw her--but that would have hurt her worse in the long run, so he kept his distance.
The next time he woke up and remembered her, their grown son contacted him before he could make any decisions; he left the choice in David's hands and she wasn't told.
The third time, he called David--he had family again, even if he didn't have her, and talking with his son, with their son, made him feel close to her again, and he almost went to her anyway.
The fourth time, it was too late to change his mind.
The fifth, and sixth, and seventh, and on and on--he never saw her again, he never even visited her grave, but remembering her helped him; there was happiness in his past, for however short a time; as awful as the rest had been, remembering her gave him a reason to see their scattered family; it gave him something to call home.
